The RealKFO Twin Block Tool
An innovation for the precise and simple production of Twin Blocks - from the expert for the expert
Simple production of Twin Blocks
The Twin Block Tool is an innovative tool invented and patented by RealKFO for the simple and precise production of a Twin Block. The tool considerably simplifies the spreading process and offers an exact 70° or 45° angle. With its precise adjustability, durability, economy and ease of maintenance, it offers numerous advantages for orthodontists and patients. By simplifying the spreading process, providing accurate angle measurement and saving time, the Twin Block Tool optimises the treatment of orthodontic patients and contributes to better results and a more efficient way of working.
Features of the Twin Block Tool
The Twin Block Tool was developed to enable the precise production of a Twin Block. The precise adjustability ensures exact angles and dimensions of the finished twin block and therefore an optimum fit.
The tool can be used to set 45° and 70° angles, depending on the application. The parallel angle of the right and left posterior bite block is displayed for easier use.
The Twin Block Tool saves time in the spreading and finishing process and thus facilitates the fabrication of twin blocks.
Class II: 70° angle
Extreme Class II or Inverted Twin Block: 45° Angle
Before placing the models in the fixator, score the underside of the models well to facilitate later restoration.
Dr Clark recommends the use of his Delta clamps for improved retention.
Individually adjustable
The Twin Block Tool can be customised precisely to the needs and anatomical features of each individual patient, ensuring an optimal fit.
Durable
Made from high-quality materials, the Twin Block Tool can be used for a particularly long time without needing to be replaced.
Economical
The use of the Twin Block Tool offers considerable added value, as it increases efficiency in the production of Twin Blocks and achieves precise results.
Easy to maintain
After use, the Twin Block Tool can be easily cleaned and disinfected to fulfil the highest hygiene standards.
Delta clamps for better retention
Choosing the right retention appliance plays a crucial role in ensuring that the orthodontic corrections achieved are permanent. After successful treatment, it is of utmost importance that the teeth and jaws are stabilised in their new position to prevent possible relapse. The inventor of the Twin Block, Dr William J. Clark, recommends the use of Delta brackets for this purpose. These can be easily combined with the Twin Block Tool.
Bending the delta clamps
Attaching the delta clamps
- Bend the mandibular appliance first.
- After the mandibular appliance has been bent, attach the Twin Block Tool. The edge of the tool should be placed in the centre of the second premolars. (Very important!)
- Press the magnets down flush with the teeth.
- Wax the tool in place with a blunt scalpel, the magnets are very strong.
Note: According to Dr Clark, labial arches are not always necessary with the Twin Block.
The production of a Twin Block with the Twin Block Tool
The Twin Block Tool can be used in a variety of ways to produce a Twin Block and can be customised to suit specific circumstances. To illustrate the principle of using the Twin Block Tool in an understandable way, you will find an example of the process for producing a Twin Block below.
Bending the delta clamps
- Spread the mandibular appliance
- After removal from the pressure pot, trim the mandibular appliance without touching the blocks in the 5-jaw area
- Trim the height of the block using the fixator and the opposing jaw as a guide
- Use pumice stone for polishing
- Place the appliance on the model, use “Isoflan” foil from Scheu-Dental to isolate the lower jaw from the upper jaw (this method is faster than taping or waxing).
Do not use clamps on the lower first molars so that expansion is possible.
Make sure that the second molars are checked. There is a risk of open bite.
Check the buccal edge of the lower block, it is often sharp-edged and must be ground round.
6. Then fabricate the maxillary appliance and polish it with pumice stone.
